Australia increases skilled visa allocation for 2022 – 2023

 “Australian states and territories have recently received their interim allocation on nomination places for the 2022 – 2023 skilled immigration program. With a significant increase for Subclass 190 visa Australia (Skilled Nominated) and Subclass 491 visa Australia (Skilled Work Regional) for most states - the Australian government is gearing up to increase permanent residency intake.“

Every year, Australian states and territories receive allocations from the government, based on which potential candidates from Subclass 190 visa Australia and Subclass 491 visa Australia are nominated. Australia’s 2022 – 2023 immigration program is good news for immigrants wanting to work and live in the country permanently. 


Australia’s Immigration Program Planning Levels 

There is a significant increase in allocations for Australia Immigration as compared to last year. With over 30,000 places, the visa allocations in the skilled nominated subclass have nearly doubled from last year’s immigration program planning levels. 

The size of the immigration program is set each year alongside the Australian government’s budget. 

Giving a glance at the latest immigration updates, it’s a good time for immigrants with a temporary visa in Australia alongside offshore candidates – to avail the opportunities for nominations across every state. 

Designed to attract skilled immigrants to support and sustain Australia’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Immigration Program Planning Levels will deliver 109,000 places in the skill stream and 50,000 places in the family stream – while the total 160,000 places in total will remain the same.

The following are the allocations for Subclass 190 visa Australia (Skilled Nominated), Subclass 491 visa Australia (Skilled Work Regional), and Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP). 

  • Australian Capital Territory: Subclass 190 – 800 | Subclass 491 – 1,920 | BIIP - 10

  • New South Wales: Subclass 190 – 7,160 | Subclass 491 – 4,870 | BIIP - 260

  • Northern Territory: Subclass 190 – 600 | Subclass 491 – 840 | BIIP - 15

  • Queensland: Subclass 190 – 3,000 | Subclass 491 – 1,200 | BIIP - 235

  • South Australia: Subclass 190 – 2,700 | Subclass 491 – 3,180 | BIIP - 70

  • Tasmania: Subclass 190 – 2,000 | Subclass 491 – 1,350 | BIIP - 10

  • Victoria: Subclass 190 – 9,000 | Subclass 491 – 2,400 | BIIP - 170

  • Western Australia: Subclass 190 – 5,350 | Subclass 491 – 2,790 | BIIP – 40

Total allocations: Subclass 190 – 30,610 | Subclass 491 – 18,550 | BIIP – 810

Prioritized Immigration 

Subclass 491 visa Australia (Skilled Work Regional) nominations will be prioritized, followed by Subclass 190 visa Australia (Skilled Nominated) and Subclass 189 visa Australia (Skilled Independent).

Australia relaxes visa rules to ease labor shortages

Australia has the second-most severe labor and skill shortages in the world – Canada being the first. According to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there were as many job vacancies in the country, as there were unemployed people. 

In an effort to resolve this issue and help ease labor market shortages in the country, Australia has increased the quotas for several skilled visa categories including 186, 189, 491, and 190 visa Australia.
